10 Prayer Journal Prompts for Women Who Feel Stuck Spiritually

Have you ever opened your Bible, grabbed your journal, and sat there staring at a blank page?

I've been there.

You want to spend time with God. You want to pray. You want to grow spiritually. But for some reason, you feel stuck.

Maybe life has been busy.

Maybe you've been carrying burdens that feel too heavy.

Maybe you've drifted from your usual routine and don't know how to get back.

Or maybe you're simply in a season where God feels quiet.

Whatever the reason, I want you to know that you're not alone.

Every believer experiences seasons where they feel spiritually stuck. Even the strongest trees go through winter. Even caterpillars spend time in the chrysalis before they emerge transformed.

Sometimes growth is happening beneath the surface even when we can't see it.

When I feel stuck, one of my favorite things to do is open my prayer journal and answer a simple prompt. It helps me move past the blank page and begin a conversation with God.

If you're feeling spiritually stuck today, here are ten prayer journal prompts to help you reconnect with Him.

1. Lord, What Are You Trying to Teach Me in This Season?

Not every season is comfortable.

Some seasons stretch us.

Some seasons humble us.

Some seasons prepare us for what comes next.

Take a few minutes to write about where you are right now and what God may be teaching you through it.

2. What Is One Burden I Need to Surrender to God Today?

Many of us carry things we were never meant to carry alone.

Write honestly about the worries, fears, frustrations, or responsibilities that are weighing on your heart.

Then pray over them and give them to God.

He is strong enough to carry what you cannot.

3. Where Have I Seen God's Faithfulness Recently?

Sometimes we become so focused on what God hasn't done yet that we forget everything He already has done.

Make a list of recent blessings.

Big or small.

You might be surprised by how much evidence of His goodness is already surrounding you.

4. What Is Keeping Me From Spending Time With God?

This question requires honesty.

Is it busyness?

Distractions?

Fear?

Disappointment?

Unanswered prayers?

Write openly without judgment.

God already knows the answer.

The purpose isn't guilt. The purpose is awareness.

5. What Does God Say About Me in His Word?

When we feel stuck spiritually, we often start listening to our feelings more than God's truth.

Look up a few verses about your identity in Christ and write them in your journal.

Remind yourself who God says you are.

Loved.

Chosen.

Forgiven.

Redeemed.

Fearfully and wonderfully made.

6. What Am I Most Grateful For Today?

Gratitude has a way of shifting our perspective.

Write down five things you're thankful for.

They don't have to be extraordinary.

A warm cup of coffee.

A text from a friend.

A butterfly landing nearby.

A roof over your head.

Another day to grow.

God's fingerprints are often found in the small things.

7. What Is One Area of My Life That Needs God's Guidance?

We all face decisions.

Some are big.

Some are small.

Write about an area where you need wisdom and invite God into that situation.

Ask Him to direct your steps and help you trust His timing.

8. What Prayer Has God Already Answered?

Take a moment to look back.

What prayers from six months ago have already been answered?

What doors has God opened?

What prayers did He answer differently than you expected?

Your journal can become a record of God's faithfulness when you take time to remember.

9. What Is One Dream God Has Placed on My Heart?

Sometimes we become spiritually stuck because we've stopped dreaming.

Write about the hopes, passions, and callings God has placed inside you.

Then pray over them.

Ask God to align your desires with His will and show you the next step forward.

10. If Jesus Were Sitting Across From Me Right Now, What Would I Want to Tell Him?

This is one of my favorite prompts.

Forget trying to sound spiritual.

Forget trying to find perfect words.

Simply write.

Tell Him what you're excited about.

Tell Him what hurts.

Tell Him what you're confused about.

Tell Him what you're afraid of.

Be honest.

Prayer grows deepest when honesty meets grace.

When You Don't Know What to Write

There may still be days when none of these prompts seem to help.

That's okay.

Some days your journal entry may only be one sentence.

Some days it may simply say:

"Lord, I'm here."

And that's enough.

One of the most beautiful things about our relationship with God is that He isn't waiting for perfect words.

He's waiting for us.

The same God who designed every butterfly wing, every flower petal, and every star in the night sky also knows every detail of your heart.

He knows when you're thriving.

He knows when you're struggling.

And He knows how to meet you right where you are.

Final Thoughts

If you're feeling spiritually stuck, don't focus on taking giant leaps.

Focus on taking one small step.

Open your journal.

Choose one prompt.

Write one honest sentence.

Pray one sincere prayer.

Just like a caterpillar doesn't become a butterfly overnight, spiritual growth happens one day at a time.

Trust the process.

Trust the Creator.

And trust that even in seasons when you feel stuck, God is still working.

Often, the most beautiful transformations happen where no one can see them.
